Lamp Holders
Metal lamp holders offer many
benefits to many users. Their simple design and low cost make them favorable for
educational and craft applications. Hobbyists love the small size of them
and the fact that they can be hidden behind the walls or other parts. More
technically savvy users like the high heat resistance of metal lamp holders.
E10 or Edison #10 is the most
common size of metal lamp holders. In these lamp holders the diameter of the
screw is 10 mm (about 3/8 inch). E10 is also the common size of light bulb for
all traditional flashlights. E10 light bulbs are also known as miniature light
bulbs or flash light bulbs.
There are four different models of
E10 metal lamp bases to choose from. Product pictures and description below can
help you in your selection.
Metal Lamp Stand E10B31
This is the most common lamp base for
educational activities, science experiments, electronic projects and
hobby activities. Its simple design makes it easy to understand for
young students, and its small foot print makes it a perfect choice for
hobby projects.
The legs have rivet/screw holes used for
easy mounting while they are also the contacts of the lamp base. The
legs that are generally on the opposite sides can be repositioned to
different angles as needed. It holds our
1.2-volt,
2.25-volt and
5.1-volt light bulbs.
E10B31 lamp stands simplify connections while making multi lamp
circuits in series or parallel. |

E10B31 lamp base is for low voltage applications. It is not

Elevated metal lamp stand E10B21
This is a widely used lamp base for 6-V up
to 24-V light bulbs installed on cardboard, light wood, plastics and metal
surfaces. The screw base in E10B21 lamp bases are elevated to prevent short
circuit when installed on metal surfaces and keeps away the heat when mounted on
cardboard or light wood surfaces. If you intend to install the lamp holder under
the hood of a car or inside a metal cabinet, then E10B21 lamp bases may be your
best choice.
The legs have rivet/screw holes used for
easy mounting while they are also the negative contacts of the lamp base.
Another smaller contact between the two legs is used to connect the
positive wire.

Metal Lamp Stand E10B26
E10B26 is the second most widely used metal
lamp base. In addition to its wide use in hobby, craft and education, it is also
used as a main component or center piece of many plastic lamp holders.

The wings that also serve as contacts are
smaller than E10B31 model, but they also have one extra hole that may be
used as contact or as a mounting hole.
The overall length is 28 mm. It is about
10 mm wide and 13 mm high.

Metal Lamp Stand E10B29
This metal lamp stand is mainly designed for
installation on circuit boards and bread boars. It has two contact pins (similar
to ICs) that can be inserted and soldered.
| The small pin shape contacts also make
this a favorite choice for craft workers who need to install a number of
these lamp bases very close to each other. E10B29 lamp bases can be
installed very close to each other or may even touch each other if
needed. The diameter is about 10
mm and the height is about 20 mm. The distance between the legs may be 9
to 11 mm.
Due to a more delicate and complex
design, E10B29 lamp holders are not recommended for beginners or young
students. |

Overall benefits of E10B29 lamp bases include
small foot print, high heat resistance, simple design, mountable on circuit
boards.
Warning:
The pins of E10B29 lamp holders are
slightly wider than common ICs and jumper wires. When trying them on
bread boards you may need to apply some force and doing this may also
damage the bread board. |
