Ammeters

What is an Ammeter?

An Ammeter is a device that shows the amount of current in an electric circuit. By knowing the current you can make some important decisions. For example you will know how thick the wire (conductor) must be or what fuse is good for the safety of your circuit. You can also use the current along with voltage to calculate electrical resistance.

To understand what current is, instead of thinking about electricity and wires, think of water and pipes (or any other water conduit like river).

Look at Hudson river or any other large river you know. Although the water is moving at low speed, you know that a huge volume of water is passing every second. That is what we call high current. Now think of a narrow pipe or gardening hose. The water in a narrow pipe, despite moving at high speed, cannot fill up a pool in a few days. That is what we call low current.

The pressure (or flow speed) of water in a pipe is known as voltage when it comes to electricity.

Desktop Ammeter

This is a desktop analog Ammeter or Ampere meter for measuring electrical current in a circuit you are making.

It can show the current between 0 and 3 Amps with 0.1 amp divisions. Or it can show the current between 0 up to 0.6 Amps with 0.02 divisions.

Product Code: AMETER1

Desktop Educational Ammeter

This analog ammeter has an adjustment knob and 3 binding posts. The black binding post is for the negative side of the connection and the red binding posts are for the positive side of the circuit. Each red binding post is for a different range and they are all marked with raised characters in front of the device.

Desktop ammeter is recommended for students and classrooms.

Box dimensions are 10 x 9 x 6 centimeters.
