COMPOUND BAR

Compound bar is used to demonstrate unequal expansion in different material on heating. Highlights the role of temperature and materials in practical applications such as in thermostats.

This is a correct compound bar, in which two metals of unequal coefficient of expansion are used to show unequal expansion.

Other compound bars use a laminated metal known as bimetal. Although those are correct for usage, but are wrong to demonstrate the principle of unequal expansion.

This bar consists of two metals, brass and steel (iron), joined together by rivets end to end, fitted to a wooden handle. On heating, the joined strips bend in a particular direction, thereby showing unequal expansion.

Part#LC674

BALL AND RING

Ball and ring are used to demonstrate the thermal expansion and contraction of metals when heated and cooled.

The ball passes freely through the ring when both are at the same temperature, but when the ball is heated, it will not pass, thereby showing expansion and when it is allowed to be cooled, it will again pass through the ring thereby showing contraction.

Consists of a brass ball and a brass ring, each individually mounted on brass rods with wooden handles.

CONDUCTOMETER, 5 ROD FORM

Conductometer is used for demonstrating the different heat conductivity of five metals by observing the melting of wax placed on the ends of the bars.

Consists of five rods (l x d), 75 x 5mm of aluminum, brass, iron, copper, and stainless steel which are radially fitted on a brass disk of about 27mm diameter. Each of these rods have a cavity at the outer end for holding paraffin wax.

The center disk is joined to an insulated handle by 125mm long plated steel rod. Overall length about 32cm.

Calorimeter (Includes Glass Alcohol Thermometer)

This Calorimeter Set is designed for determining specific heat, heat of fusion and heat of vaporization.  The set consists of two polished spun aluminum vessels, i.e. an inner calorimeter, 80 x 65 mm (height x diameter) and an outer calorimeter, 140 x 100 mm (height x diameter).

This set also includes a plastic ring, used as housing for the inner calorimeter, a stirrer, and a plastic lid for the outer vessel and one of our glass alcohol thermometers.  The lid has two holes for the thermometer and the stirrer.  This set is perfect for the home science enthusiasts or the professional scientists.
