 Magnesium Metal

Magnesium is an alkaline earth metal that has the symbol Mg in the periodic table of elements. Magnesium is a fairly strong, silvery-white, light-weight metal (one third lighter than aluminum) that slightly tarnishes when exposed to air. In a powder, this metal heats and ignites when exposed to moisture and burns with a white flame. It is difficult to ignite in bulk, though it is easy to light if it is shaved into thin strips. Once ignited, it is difficult to extinguish.

We sell magnesium in three forms:

Magnesium Ribbon

Magnesium Ribbon is a long strip of magnesium metal about 3 millimeters wide and about 10 meters long. Other specifications are:

  • Thickness 0.03mm.
  • Flammable Solid.
  • Weights about 25 grams

Magnesium is a flammable metal used in fire works and combustion experiments.

Magnesium ribbon burns with a bright light. Close and direct look at the flame is harmful for the eyes. In the past magnesium flame have been used as a photography flash light. Magnesium is also used in fireworks. Magnesium ribbon is specifically sold for science experiments and observations.

Magnesium Strip Electrode

Magnesium Electrode is a strip of magnesium metal about 2 centimeters wide, 12 centimeters long and 1.2 millimeters thick. It is stamped with letters MG so it can easily be distinguished from other metal electrodes with the same size.

Magnesium electrode is used for electrolysis and construction of voltaic cell. It is also used for heat conductivity, density and hardness experiments.

Magnesium Coil Electrode

Magnesium Coil Electrode is a hand made coil of magnesium strip made specifically for construction of voltaic cells and battery experiments such as "Salt Water Battery".

Since the magnesium coil is very fragile, it is being shipped in clear plastic tubes.

The length of the coil is about 10 centimeters.

Magnesium Rod

Magnesium rod also known as magnesium stick is Made of 99.8% MAGNESIUM and is used in making magnesium parts and magnesium alloys.  The weight is 1 lb and the dimensions are 1.3" (32mm) in diameter and 12" (300mm) in length. May be used to make magnesium parts or magnesium alloys.
