Plasma Bulb Lamp

Plasma Lamp was invented by Nikola Tesla in order to demonstrate electrical discharge of high voltage and high frequency electricity in vacuum or in different gases. This is the science that led to the invention of fluorescent light tubes and color light tubes often known as Neon light. In fact only inert gases (also known as Nobel gases) can be used for this purpose because other gases are chemically reactive and cause instant corrosion or burning on the electrode.

This plasma globe or plasma lamp is a clear glass sphere (3 inches in diameter) filled with some Nobel gases with a high-voltage electrode in the center of the sphere. Plasma filaments extend from the inner electrode to the outer glass insulator, giving the appearance of multiple constant beams of colored light. Similar to aurora and electric arc, but enclosed in a glass bulb. The color of light beams vary by the type of gas. This bulb contain mostly Neon gas resulting red light beams.

Requires 4 AA batteries (not included).
Individually boxed.
Box size: 10 x 10 x 16 cm.
Weight: 240 grams.

Plasma lamp is also known as plasma ball, plasma dome, plasma sphere, and inert gas discharge bulb.

See how it reacts to a soft touch.

Plasma bulbs are used by students and scientists to study and understand the amazing properties of high voltage electricity that can also extend out of its glass bulb, enter your body and light up a fluorescent light bulb you may have in your hand.

Many technologies, industries and equipment are relying or are based on the properties of high voltage and high frequency electromagnetic waves.

This image shows the plasma bulb in a low light room with a black background. Do you know why the light waves change to blue and follow your hand if you touch the bulb or hold your hand near the bulb?

Where to buy Plasma bulb (Glowing Globe)?

Plasma bulb can be ordered online at MiniScience online store. Click on the image to see the prices and availability.

Experiment:

In a dark room, turn on the plasma ball and hold a fluorescent lamp near it? Report what happens. Explain your observation based on the properties of high voltage electricity and mercury gasses in a fluorescent lamp.
